Despite signing few new players in free agency this offseason, the Dallas Cowboys are now making moves ahead of training camp. On Tuesday, the team worked out four players from the UFL – defensive end Jonathan Garvin, defensive end Wyatt Ray, defensive end Derick Roberson and running back John Lovett.

A former defensive end for the Packers, Garvin wrapped his season in the UFL with a title with the Birmingham Stallions. A former seventh-round draft pick out of Miami, Garvin entered the league in 2020 with the Green Bay Packers. He played in Green Bay for three seasons, tallying 32 tackles in 38 games with 1.5 sacks and a half-tackle for loss.

Despite his contributions, the Packers opted to move on from the former Hurricanes standout before he began the final year of his rookie deal. Once released, Garvin sat out the 2023 season before joining the Stallions for 2024. Helping Birmingham to the UFL Championship, he had 20 tackles with 3.5 sacks and a tackle for loss.

UFL talent looking to break back into NFL

Wyatt Cole Ray, the grandson of famous jazz singer Nat King Cole, played the UFL season for the San Antonio Brahmas along with John Lovett. After joining the league as an undrafted rookie, Ray played with the Browns, Texans, Bills, Titans, Jets, Bengals, Texans, Jaguars and Broncos. Primarily a practice squad player, he had his first career sack against Aaron Rodgers in 2020 for the Titans.

Lovett finished fourth in the UFL in rushing yards with 423 yards and five rushing touchdowns. He also had one receiving touchdown as the Brahmas made it all the way to the title game before falling to the Stallions.

Derick Roberson played for the DC Defenders this season. He entered the NFL with the Tennessee Titans and also had a stop with the Houston Texans before joining the Roughnecks of the XFL in 2023. Over three seasons for the Titans, he had 26 tackles with 4.5 sacks.

Dallas signs two from UFL

The Dallas Cowboys inked two new players from the UFL talent pool last week, signing former first-rounder Gareon Conley and UFL tackles leader Willie Harvey Jr. to new deals on Tuesday. After finding success with both Brandon Aubrey and KaVontae Turpin over the last two seasons, the Cowboys are bolstering the bottom of the roster with a couple of standouts from the alternate league.

Conley was one of two former first-round cornerbacks that the Cowboys worked out last week. Now, the former Ohio State star has a new contract in the NFL after three seasons out of the league.

The Raiders originally drafted Conley with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft out of Ohio State. He had a good run with the Raiders before they traded him to the Houston Texans in 2019. He went on injured reserve, however, before moving to the UFL. This year for the DC Defenders, he notched two interceptions.

Harvey finished the 2024 season in the UFL with 78 tackles and four sacks in 10 games for the St. Louis BattleHawks. He led the league in tackles, quickly drawing the eyes of NFL scouts. The 28-year-old also led all linebackers in tackles for loss with nine, as well as passes defended (six) and forced fumbles (two). His production led to him landing a spot on the All-UFL Team.
