Report: Everton are now in negotiations to sell £17m player who made 37 appearances last season

Everton’s potential outgoings this summer are set to be dominated by a few key names, with the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite, Amadou Onana and Dominic Calvert-Lewin just three of the most notable linked with exits.

This trio make up the spine of Sean Dyche’s team, and to lose any of them would mark a blow.

However, there is a quiet realisation that, if the Toffees are to continue spending on the improvement of the squad, someone must be sacrificed.

Fortunately, they could now be bailed out by a Turkish club, seeking to acquire one of Everton’s less-important assets for a sizeable sum.

Everton could lose Beto just a year after signing

The latest on this proposed interest comes from Turkish outlet Fotomac, who seek to provide an update on Fenerbahçe’s transfer plans for the summer.

With Jose Mourinho having been welcomed in as manager, some kind of overhaul was expected, and it is now noted that one Everton man is seen as the figurehead for this Portuguese revolution.

The report reads: According to the news of Takvim, Kanarya is working hard to add the striker Beto, who plays for Everton in England, to his squad.

‘It was learned that Fenerbahçe Sports Director Mario Branco, who tightened his contacts for players from many positions, has been in negotiations for Beto for a while with the Premier League team.

‘Coach Jose Mourinho also approved the 26-year-old Portuguese attacker; It was stated that Everton expected a fee of over 20 million Euros (£17m) for the football player.’

AC and Inter Milan have both shown interest in Beto already this summer.

Do not be too quick to write Beto off

Whilst it might seem a no-brainer to ship off Beto just one year after he signed, especially given he failed to set the world alight, it is worth not jumping the gun on this endeavour.

After all, writing him off would be foolish, given he has all the assets needed to be a success at Everton.

He is a tall, fast, physical striker who works hard and is visibly passionate about the club.

Yes, the goals were hard to come by across his 37 appearances across all competitions last season, but of the five that he did score, he showcased what finishing prowess he did have.

Able to hold off defenders and run in behind, and still just 26 years old, he has had his year adjusting to the Premier League.

Let’s not forget that the season before signing for Everton he hit double figures in the Serie A, a league where it is notoriously hard to score goals.

This Portuguese marksman might have to be sacrificed to save the club’s PSR position, but that would not make him a failure. Should he stay, do not be surprised if he turns it on in his second full campaign in England.
