The Dallas Cowboys‘ schedule for training camp in Oxnard, California is now out, revealing 14 open practice dates, including one Hero’s Appreciation Day. The date for the Cowboys’ scrimmage against the L.A. Rams is also set for Aug. 8.

Dallas’s players have six weeks off between minicamp and training camp, giving them plenty of time to rest up before embarking on what will be the longest camp in recent memory. The Cowboys will depart from Dallas for Oxnard on July 22-23 and camp will not wrap up until August 22.

The day for both veterans and rookies to report to camp is July 24. Undoubtedly, the team will be anxiously waiting to see whether No. 1 wide receiver CeeDee Lamb opts to join them or hold out for his blockbuster contract extension. Last year, right guard Zack Martin staged a holdout until the team restructured his contract.

Cowboys set joint practices with Rams in Oxnard

In a departure from their routine last season, the Cowboys are opting to hold joint team practices with the LA Rams this year. The two teams face off in the first preseason game on August 11, which makes the Rams the logical choice, though the Cowboys also play the LA Chargers in the preseason as well.

By holding joint practices with the Rams earlier in the preseason, the players will get a taste of facing unfamiliar foes sooner, rather than later.

The team confirmed on Wednesday that the Cowboys will have the scrimmage in Oxnard on Aug. 8, which is three days before the preseason game. As most practices are in Oxnard, the joint practice will be open to the public at the River Ridge complex. Last year, the team had some drama with local residents who had their view of the fields obstructed by VIP tenting at the facility. They’ll undoubtedly want to get a glimpse of the joint practice against the Rams this year.

The Cowboys’ preseason game against the Rams will be played in SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. After playing the Rams, they’ll face the Raiders and the Chargers before opening the regular season against the Cleveland Browns on the road.

So far, the Cowboys and Rams have met up for 28 preseason matchups in their history. The Rams have won 16 games, while the Cowboys have won 12. In the 38 games that the two teams have played that actually matter, Dallas has won 20 and the Rams have won 18.

The 2022 season was the last time the Cowboys chose to hold joint practices. They met up with the Broncos in Denver, as well as the Chargers, before beginning their 12-5 regular-season run.
