'I understand': Journalist offers latest update on Crysencio Summerville and Willly Gnonto's futures at Leeds

Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto continue to be linked with exits from Leeds United this summer and Athletic journalist Nancy Froston has shared a new update on their futures.

The two Leeds wingers are almost inseparable off the pitch but could both be heading out of Elland Road after the club’s failure to win promotion.

Given their age, contract lengths and potential, both Summerville and Gnonto are undoubtedly two of Leeds’ most sellable assets, in a summer where it has already been acknowledged sales are needed.

Summerville is attracting interest from numerous Premier League clubs, with Fabrizio Romano even reporting last week that Brighton & Hove Albion have started talks. An asking price of £30 million has been set.

Gnonto, meanwhile, was always bound to generate speculation once it became clear Leeds would remain in the Championship following his antics last summer.

Nancy Froston shares new update on Summerville & Gnonto

Leeds have already started looking at wingers who could potentially come in this summer, with FC Basel and former Preston North End loanee Liam Millar linked.

However, Millar is only likely to arrive if one or both of Summerville and Gnonto were to depart, offering as clear an indication as any they could be on their way out.

Leeds are reported to have shown little resistance to trying to keep Summerville behind-the-scenes following the season he just enjoyed, but Gnonto‘s future is a little more interesting considering his up and down campaign.

And speaking on One Leeds Fan Channel earlier today, Athletic journalist Froston has shared an update on both, suggesting reports of talks with Brighton over Summerville are premature.

She said: “I saw the one with Brighton and Summerville took off but as far as I understand that wasn’t really based on anything. I don’t think Brighton were seriously considering picking up the phone or putting an offer into Leeds.

“But those type of clubs are circling and considering, but I don’t know if any of them are at the stage where it’s going to heat up immediately. Both of those players [Summerville and Gnonto] are going to be talked about all summer.

“They are two of the more likely ones to go, based on the position they were in with Gnonto last year. It’s not out of the realms of possibility that he might feel a bit unsettled again with another Championship season ahead of him.”

Gnonto should use Summerville example for next future decision

Though Gnonto did enjoy somewhat of a purple patch between February and April, he will have ended the campaign feeling it could’ve gone better.

Unfortunately for him, his best pal Summerville made himself undroppable on the left wing from October onwards, a position he himself had looked excellent in, in the Premier League.

As such, Gnonto could use Summerville as an example for how the Championship can really provide the platform to go onto big things, if you really knuckle down.

After winning the Championship’s POTS award, Summerville is now almost certain to get a big money move to an established Premier League club. On the other hand, if Gnonto was to move, it would more likely to be someone near the bottom.

Instead by staying, he could then take up Summerville’s left-wing spot and get back to his best. From there, who knows what the future could hold for him.
