Report Premier League giants now want to re-sign 'low-cost' Southampton star, he needs to be 'convinced'

It could be bad news for Southampton as one of the Premier League ‘Big Six’ want to sign one of their key players in a ‘low-cost’ move.

Manager Russell Martin will want to focus on incomings at Southampton this summer as he prepares for the Premier League.

So far this summer Southampton have confirmed Taylor Harwood-Bellis’ loan deal has been made permanent and 36-year-old former player Adam Lallana has arrived on a free.

Left-back Romain Perraud is the only player to have been sold at this point, with the Frenchman securing a £3 million transfer to Spanish club Real Betis.

Worryingly, Perraud could be joined out the exit door by another full-back, with Tottenham Hotspur weighing up a move for Kyle Walker-Peters.

Tottenham Hotspur want to re-sign Kyle Walker-Peters this summer

Walker-Peters was one of Southampton’s best players last season and was the club’s only representative in the EFL Championship Team of the Season.

The twice-capped England international was widely expected to leave the Saints when they were relegated in 2023 but stayed to be an integral part of the promotion winning side.

With a Premier League return fans will hope that Walker-Peters will stay at the club but GIVEMESPORT have reported that his former club may look to convince him to make a return to North London.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Spurs are considering ‘multiple options’ as back-up to Pedro Porro and would consider Walker-Peters a good ‘low-cost option’.

However, the potential good news for Southampton is that the player himself is not yet said ‘to be convinced’ by the reduced role at Spurs.

It is perhaps unsurprising that Walker-Peters is the subject of transfer interest this summer given his standout campaign in the Championship and historical performances at Premier League level.

Chelsea were linked with a move for the 27-year-old in January but the right-back was keen to finish the job of getting promoted with Southampton before assessing his options in the summer.

The Saints appear to have been planning for Walker-Peters’ potential departure as they have been linked with both Bournemouth’s Max Aarons and AZ Alkmaar’s Yukinari Sugawara who both play the same position.

Whilst these may be back-ups with James Bree perhaps not seen as capable of making the step up to the Premier League, both are players that Southampton could realistically be lining up as replacements for Walker-Peters should they lose him this summer.

The St Mary’s faithful will hope this is not the case but a return to the club for whom he started his career could be tempting for the full-back.
