Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool like £38m player and have watched him all season

Liverpool are still yet to forcefully enter the transfer market this summer.

With so much change happening at Anfield over recent weeks, the Reds are easing themselves into the off-season.

As Arne Slot finally gets down to work though, there are a number of things for him to address in the Liverpool squad.

The Reds could really do with bringing in a new centre-back following Joel Matip’s exit. Another forward is also reportedly on Liverpool’s agenda, while an additional midfielder would be nice, too.

Thankfully, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Slot and the FSG recruitment team do have some irons in the fire.

Liverpool still hold interest in Ederson

Of the four needs in the transfer market for Liverpool – they could also do with a new back-up goalkeeper – signing a midfielder feels to be bottom of the list.

Slot already has quite a number of midfielders left over from the Jurgen Klopp era. The head coach should also bring Tyler Morton into the first-team proper.

There were rumours that Wataru Endo may leave but with Endo now looking set to stay put, Liverpool have plenty of options.

Nevertheless, some fresh blood could make all the difference for Liverpool. And according to Romano, the Reds do still hold interest in Atalanta’s Ederson.

Ederson was heavily linked with Liverpool earlier in the summer. There were even talks that the Reds had entered into discussions with Ederson’s agents.

And speaking via his YouTube channel late on Wednesday night, the reporter once again confirmed Liverpool’s interest in the 24-year-old.

“For Ederson it’s a quiet situation,” Romano explains. “The interest of Liverpool is true. When we had rumours from Liverpool it’s true that they appreciate the player, it’s true that people from Liverpool were scouting Ederson during the fantastic season he had.

“But at the moment Atalanta have not received any proposal from Liverpool.”

Liverpool waiting for summer tournaments to pass

Part of the reason we are yet to see any movement from Liverpool this summer is because of the ongoing international tournaments.

Ederson himself is away with Brazil at the Copa America, while Euro 2024 is now ready to enter the knockout rounds.

Until those two competitions are out of the way, it feels as though things will continue to remain quiet.

From Ederson’s point of view, he does not look getting much game time for Brazil. He was left on the bench throughout their goalless draw against Costa Rica on Tuesday.

That won’t bother Liverpool if they are indeed pondering a move for him. There have been claims that a £38m bid for Ederson is being readied at Anfield and you get the impression that they’d happily wait for things to conclude in the USA first.

In our opinion, it still feels unlikely that this will happen. But Liverpool clearly like something about Ederson.
