How Amadou Onana views Bayern Munich transfer as Arsenal face new rival interest

Everton star Amadou Onana has now set his stance on a transfer to Bayern Munich as Vincent Kompany moves to rival Mikel Arteta for the Arsenal manager’s ‘ideal’ target.

Der FCB have entered the hunt to sign Onana with Everton potentially having to sell one star player soon. Premier League clubs face a mini-deadline day on June 30 as they look to avoid breaching profit and sustainability rules (PSR). The Toffees have already broken PSR twice.

Onana has emerged as a candidate for the Goodison Park squad to sell with Arsenal showing interest in his transfer. The 22-year-old has often been a key cog on Merseyside in the Blues’ efforts to avoid relegation. But his departure would help Everton’s troubled finances greatly.

Bayern Munich could rival Arsenal for Everton star Amadou Onana

Reports by the Mirror this week have suggested that Arsenal see Onana as the ‘ideal’ player to replace Thomas Partey. Doubts linger about the 31-year-old’s future at Emirates Stadium as Partey has one year on his contract. The Ghanaian has even often struggled with injuries.

It is highly likely that Partey leaves north London this summer due to his contract and fitness issues, too. Everton’s uneasy finances also open a door for Arsenal to get Onana in a bargain transfer. The Sun has noted that Everton only want £30m for Onana to avoid breaching PSR.

Yet Arsenal are not alone in the race as the Liverpool ECHO now reports that Bayern Munich have joined the hunt for Onana’s transfer. Der FCB have been prioritising a move for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha. But Bayern only want to offer £40m and the Cottagers want more.

Onana has now emerged on Bayern Munich’s radar as an alternative to Palhinha as manager Kompany is an admirer of his fellow Belgian. The 16-cap Red Devils star would also cost less than the Portugal star, despite Manchester United and Barcelona being long-term admirers.

In a further blow to Arsenal’s interest in Onana, the Liverpool ECHO claims that both he and Everton are open to his transfer to Bayern Munich. The Blues would not block a deal as they would prefer to retain Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the summer market.

Onana already speaks German having played for TSG Hoffenheim and Hamburger SV earlier in the midfielder’s career. He joined Hoffenheim as a youth prospect in 2017 but switched to Hamburg in 2020 for just one year. Onana also only spent a season in France at LOSC Lille.

Now, Onana could return to Germany at the country’s most successful club, Bayern Munich, and in the Bundesliga. He only played in the 2.Bundesliga with Hamburg in 2020/21, having never progressed beyond Hoffenheim’s B-team and developing in the Regionalliga Sudwest.
