Derby County fans react to the 2024/25 home kit

Derby changed their kit supplier at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, switching from Umbro following a decade and returning to Puma, a badge that was infamous with the Rams during the 90s.

It was announced in April that following an absence of just over 20 years, Puma would return as the club’s official kit and training wear partner.

This left supporters anticipating the release of the new home kit, with Derby’s official account unveiling it on Thursday morning.

The shirt is a classic black and white design, with clean, simple lines in a dry-cell fabric, emphasising PUMA’s Forever Faster philosophy. Meanwhile, the wraparound feature on both the shirts and shorts cuts through the black, representing unity and moving forwards.

Responses to the new home shirt were mixed, as fans took to X to give their initial reaction. One supporter said: “Decent looking kit. A little disappointing that it’s a template but isn’t a bad one. Hopefully it can be as iconic as last year’s.”

Another shared a positive reaction: “I like it. For everybody moaning we play in white. Only so much you can do with it. My lad will love it as well.”

A third added: “Simple but effectively done, love it! Looking forward to the new season…”

For all of the positive reactions, there was a flood of negative responses, with many complaining about the price of the kit and it’s simplicity.

“20 year wait for them to come up with a 18/19 version with more sponsors. Gutted,” another fan said. While a sixth added: “Underwhelmed. Expected better from @puma.”

A seventh then said: “It’s alright but £60 for a shirt is abit much.”

Puma will be a welcomed change from Umbro

Puma is an iconic supplier in the eyes of many as it was front and centre of Derby’s shirts during their Premier League years in the 90s.

Umbro, meanwhile, donned the shirts of a side that endured a difficult decade, which included three play-off defeats in the Championship, a period that nearly saw them go out of business completely under Mel Morris and subsequent relegation to League One.

While that capped off their journey with Umbro on a high by sealing their return to the second tier, Derby will hope to continue the legacy that Puma created as kit suppliers, starting with retaining their Championship status.
