What’s really going on with Eberechi Eze to Liverpool transfer links

Liverpool look likely to be in the market for a new wide forward this summer.

The Reds have several brilliant options already in Arne Slot’s squad but are reportedly looking to add another.

Plenty of players have been put forward as potential signings. Nico Williams has been heavily linked after some excellent showings for Spain at Euro 2024.

Rodrygo Goes of Real Madrid is another who is reportedly on Liverpool’s radar, as journalist Graeme Bailey exclusively told Rousing The Kop on Thursday.

While Williams or Rodrygo would represent top-level additions, Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze would be another who would excite the crowds at Anfield.

Journalist shares latest on Eberechi Eze links

Eze had an excellent end to the season with Crystal Palace, earning a spot in England’s squad for Euro 2024.

And although he has only played 21 minutes for the Three Lions in Germany so far, the 25-year-old looks ready for a big move this summer.

Eze was perhaps not as sought after as Palace teammate Michael Olise, who was also linked with Liverpool before finalising a move to Bayern Munich.

But nevertheless, the former QPR man’s 11 Premier League goals last season bettered that of Olise.

As a result, some reports from earlier in the week suggested that Eze could be on Slot’s radar to add to the Liverpool squad.

Addressing those rumours for The Redmen TV, journalist Paul Gorst shared what he’d been able to find out.

“I looked into it yesterday [Wednesday],” says Gorst. “It’s come from a Palace fan site, that information wouldn’t have come from someone at Liverpool whether informally or through a more formal briefing, it’s not at Liverpool’s end.

“We will see, I’m hoping to get a little bit more light on that particular one today [Thursday],” he adds.

How much would Eberechi Eze cost?

Eze does have the look of a player who is primed to take the next step in his career. His involvement with England only serves to underline that.

However, it also should be said that Palace look ready to take that leap as a club, too. They were superb under Oliver Glasner at the end of the season and have already made some smart signings.

Set to lose Olise, they’ll also be keen to guard against selling the man who he has dovetailed with so effectively at Selhurst Park.

As a result, it’s going to take a big money figure to get Eze out this summer. According to The Daily Mail, the winger has a release clause of at least £60m in his contract.

From a Liverpool point of view, that feels like too much. Eze will turn 26 on Saturday and for that kind of fee would need to go straight into the starting XI.

As good as he is, we just don’t think he’s the profile Liverpool are looking for.
