Ukraine expects France to continue its support after the early parliamentary elections, which far-right powers may win, says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy before the EU summit in Brussels.

The president was asked whether he had any concerns about continuing support from France amid the parliamentary elections, to be held in two rounds on June 30 and July 7.

He said that support for Ukraine was based on the support of ordinary people. Therefore, Zelenskyy hopes that France will be on Ukraine's side.

"Elections, that's a decision of one or another country. We can't push it and we don't want it. That's about freedom, that's, by the way, about values, we're fighting for. That's why I hope that most countries will be on the right side of history. On our side," the president said.

Elections in France

In early June, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the dissolution of the National Assembly (the lower house of the French parliament). Before that, his party, Renaissance, lost in the European Parliament elections.

According to opinion polls, the far-right National Rally party, led by Marine Le Pen, may win the early parliamentary elections. The party's list is headed by Jordan Bardella. He is likely to become the new Prime Minister of France.
