Report: Mike McCarthy ‘getting fed up’ with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ constant meddling, undermining

Mike McCarthy is reportedly getting fed up with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ constant undermining, according to Tyler Dunne of Go Long TD.

Jones is one of the most involved owners in all of sports when it comes to personnel and staffing decisions. He wants the final say on what his Cowboys can and can’t do.

So when it comes to McCarthy trying to get the team over the hump, it’s much more difficult than usual.

“He’s doing it the best he can,” an ex-Cowboys personnel man recently said, per the report. “Some of the people I’ve talked to have said that he’s getting fed up with it a little bit.”

For an organization that hasn’t won a Super Bowl in three decades, it hasn’t been the same since Jones got really involved. It hasn’t been the same since the end of the Jimmy Johnson era.

McCarthy’s future is uncertain in of itself considering the Cowboys’ lack of an NFC Championship game appearance in 28 years, and counting. It looked like the team had the firepower last year. But they were upset by the Wild Card Green Bay Packers and Jordan Love.

Mike McCarthy could be latest frustrated by Jerry Jones

So amid McCarthy’s frustrations, lack of big time success with the franchise, Dak Prescott’s contract situation making headlines, again, it seems like it’s the same old story for Dallas.

And who could blame McCarthy at that point? When the former Packers coach took over in Dallas, he signed on a five-year deal. Since then, he’s gone 42-25, but 1-3 in postseason games.

Despite not receiving an extension, McCarthy insisted to reporters this spring that there’s no more pressure in 2024 than in any other year. The Cowboys go into every season expecting a shot at the Super Bowl, and any year they fall short of those expectations could mean the end of his tenure.

“I don’t (feel pressure),” McCarthy said. “Because I mean, I think as a coach, you know, every year is, I mean, it’s the same. I mean, let’s be honest, and that’s the way it’s always been. Personally, I’ve been in this spot. This will be the third time, you know, and it’s worked out very well for me. So I’m not really concerned about it.”

Whether he’s actually fed up or not, McCarthy’s storyline is yet another one to watch for regarding the Cowboys. The NFL’s most talked about franchise will just keep the wheels turning this fall.
