The German athletics federation (DLV) is confident that Olympic long champion Malaika Mihambo will be in top form for the 2024 Paris Olympics after a coronavirus infection.
Mihambo had to withdraw from German athletics championships in the wake of the Covid-19 infection, just one month before the start of the Paris Games.
"We will do everything we can to ensure that she can prepare as well as possible for the Olympic Games," DLV sporting director Jörg Bügner said.
Mihambo contracted the coronavirus earlier this month directly after the European championships in Rome, where she won Germany's only gold medal with a world leading 7.22 metres.
She has since resumed training, but the German championships in Braunschweig are still too early for her.
Along with decathlete Leo Neugebauer she is Germany's biggest gold medal hope for Paris. She won gold in 2021 and also has two world titles.
Bügner had recently spoken of coronavirus cases within the team, without releasing names.
The German championships from Friday to Sunday are a last chance for Olympic qualification.
The 2022 European 5,000m champion Konstanze Klosterhalfen, who hasn't yet secured her participation at the Games, has also withdrawn and the DLV no longer expects her to compete in Paris.
The dream of Paris is "no longer be a reality" for her. That's not possible," Bügner said.
