Georgia freshman pitcher Ryker Chavis entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. He did not see any action this season.
Chavis played his high school baseball at Warner Robbins (Ga.) Houston County HS. He’ll now look elsewhere to continue his college career.
At the HS level, Chavis went 10-1 as a senior with one save and a 1.45 ERA. He had 92 strikeouts over the course of 77 innings.
Chavis helped set a school record for wins by going 36-6 and winning a state title. Before Houston County, he began his prep career at the Maclay School in Tallahassee (Fla.), perhaps an indication of what schools could interest him in the portal.

Ryker Chavis enters transfer portal, won’t be part of Wes Johnson’s future
Chavis is one pitcher head coach Wes Johnson won’t have at his disposal going into the 2025 season. But, the coach just signed a new contract extension through the 2030 season, so it goes.
Johnson released a statement upon signing his new deal, following a successful first year at the helm.
“I’d like to thank Josh Brooks, President Jere Morehead, and all our fans for their commitment to Georgia Baseball,” Johnson said. “We’ve received tremendous support, and if you drive by Foley Field right now, you can see the $45 million renovation currently underway that will enhance our program and help lead us to more success in the future.”
This was the most successful year for Georgia since the team made the College World Series finals in 2008. The Bulldogs were the No. 7 seed for the NCAA Championships and were one game away from reaching the CWS, under Johnson.
