Media reports 2,000 demonstrators at Netanyahu's private villa

Around 2,000 people demonstrated outside the private villa of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Caesarea near Tel Aviv on Thursday evening, the news portal ynetnews.com reported.

They were reportedly demanding steps to free the hostages abducted by the Palestinian Islamist Hamas movement and Netanyahu's resignation.

The demonstrators were quoted chanting slogans such as "How much more blood will be shed before you go" and "Bring the hostages back now - and go!"

Hamas and other extremist groups from the Gaza Strip had attacked southern Israel on October 7, killing more than 1,200 people and abducting another 250 as hostages. Indirect negotiations for the release of around 100 living hostages, mediated by the United States, Egypt and Qatar, are currently at an impasse.

Critics accuse Netanyahu of not seriously seeking a hostage deal to avoid alienating the ultra-religious and right-wing partners in his coalition. The premier attributes the lack of success in the negotiations to what he considers the intransigent stance of Hamas.

Protests against Netanyahu have intensified in recent weeks. The most powerful demonstrations are taking place in the coastal metropolis of Tel Aviv. However, the Netanyahus' private villa in the seaside resort of Caesarea, 50 kilometres north of Tel Aviv, is also repeatedly the scene of rallies against the head of government.
