For several reasons, the C8 Corvette ZR1 is arguably one of the most anticipated unveilings that will transpire this year. It will be the most powerful, track-ready, street-legal Corvette. This car will look spectacular, sound spectacular, and have astonishing speed. Without a doubt, it will also place the Corvette in supercar territory and begin to encroach on the realm of hypercars with an expected 800 horsepower on tap. Chevrolet has been on a role with providing teasers over the past few months, and the most recent one gives a confirmation date for when the reveal will take place.
July 25 has been announced as the official reveal date for the C8 Corvette ZR1. That’s a little over a month away, and we highly recommend marking the date on your calendars. C8 Corvette ZR1: What To Expect
Engine
We can expect the C8 ZR1 to feature a large extractor similar to the GT3 race car, which opens things up for increased airflow from the grille, leading to improved front radiator cooling and increased levels of downforce. The vehicle also has smaller “NACA ducts” at the rear fender, just behind the central openings. These appear unique to the C8 Corvette ZR1 and should help distinguish this beast from the others. It will likely aid in the extra cooling needed for its twin-turbocharged V8 engine, codenamed LT7. The LT7 will be a DOHC V8 like the LT6 but with a different personality. Where the LT6 is all motor, high-revving, the LT7 will likely see a lower redline, but still incredible horsepower levels.
Design
The C8 ZR1 may also see the return of the split-window design, which some spied prototypes appear to have beneath the heavy camouflage. The split-window design exclusively appeared on the Corvette in 1963 and is arguably the most sought-after configuration of the Corvette to this day, so the return could be a spectacular move by GM.
There’s plenty of power on tap with the ZR1 to make a Porsche 911 Turbo S blush, and then some, for what’s sure to be a fraction of the price. Not only that but it’s bound to be the quickest Corvette yet, likely from 0-100-0 mph, with all of the downforce hardware to go with it. The reveal is still a month away, so we will have plenty of time to wait and speculate on what we can expect from this absolutely jaw-dropping supercar.
