PSG now set sights on replacement for Manuel Ugarte as Manchester United lean towards £50m move - Journalist

Manchester United have been handed a boost in the race to sign Manuel Ugarte as PSG identify their replacement for him.

A midfielder remains of top importance for Manchester United this summer, and recently there have been links to one of the best options.

Despite a less-than-brilliant first season with PSG, Manuel Ugarte is still an incredible defensive midfielder with ‘enormous potential’ and would be a strong fit for United.

The Uruguayan has been linked with an Old Trafford move on multiple occasions in recent days and it seems as though he is Ineos‘ new priority midfielder.

Now, United have been handed a boost in the race to sign him as PSG identify their replacement.

PSG now want Amadou Onana while Manchester United lean toward Manuel Ugarte deal

PSG are now being linked with potential replacements for Ugarte which can only be a good thing for United’s chances of getting a deal done.

However, according to the French outlet Foot Mercato’s journalist Sebastien Denis, PSG’s potential replacement for the Uruguayan happens to be a player also on the list for Ineos.

It’s explained that PSG are considering Amadou Onana for their Ugarte replacement. United also still hold an interest in the Belgian midfielder this summer but are leaning more toward Ugarte which could see this move suit everyone.

It’s added that Onana could cost PSG between £46.5m and £50.8m, which makes it a straight swap as the asking price for Ugarte is £50m.

To further the Ugarte story, ESPN Uruguay have reported that the defensive midfielder will depart PSG this summer before adding that United are closely following him.

Is Ugarte better than Onana?

The bizarre thing about both Ugarte and Onana being targeted by United is that they’re both different in terms of the qualities they possess in midfield.

Onana physically is a far better option than Ugarte thanks to his immense height and strength and also how quickly he covers ground.

However, Ugarte besides that, possesses every trait needed in a defensive midfielder. But so does Onana, which makes it tough to say Ugarte is better than the Belgian.

But as far as defensive midfielders go, they are two of the best on the market, so whichever Ineos want, we’ll happily trust their decision.
