At the upcoming NATO summit in Washington, Poland will announce the operational readiness of the NATO-Ukraine training center. The North Atlantic Alliance will play a more active role in coordinating assistance to Ukraine, according to Polish Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

According to him, this is the first real unit of its kind.

The establishment of the center in Poland was announced in February. It will summarize lessons from the war in Ukraine and support Kyiv in its fight against Russia.

The Deputy Prime Minister was also asked whether the idea of creating a permanent Aid Fund, which will help Ukraine long-term, will be discussed at the NATO summit.

"This was discussed at the ministers' meeting. I don't know if it will be called a long-term fund, but from the moment the summit takes place, NATO will take on a greater role in coordinating assistance to Ukraine. This is an important signal," the politician said.

According to him, the aid should involve the provision of equipment and training, but on the territory of NATO countries.

"Nothing will change. I know that some countries wanted to go to Ukraine with a training mission. Poland stands by its position, we have trained over 20,000 soldiers in Poland: this is going well, and we will continue to do so," he added.

NATO summit

In July 2024, a NATO summit will be held in Washington to mark the 75th anniversary of the Alliance. As noted by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the central theme of the meeting will be the development of a "road map" for Ukraine's accession to the organization.

At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna said that Kyiv expects strategic decisions from its allies regarding air defense.
