President Joe Biden's aides are getting their digital resumes ready after a debate performance that's being compared to a disaster movie spoof, according to a new report.

"I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue,” one Democratic House member told Politico.

This, of course, is a line from "Airplane!" in which a stressed out air traffic controller watches a plane full of singing nuns, an incognito NBA player and a man who would like not to be called Shirley barrel toward a dark runway.

This is also how one anonymous Democrat responded when Biden declared during the debate, "We finally beat Medicare."

Other responses documented by Politico include:

  • A former Clinton administration alum sending a gif of a train wreck.
  • A former senior Obama official railing off a list of people who might be able to convince Biden to drop out.
  • A Democratic operative revealed a shortlist of replacements.

This Politico describes succinctly as a"mass panic among Democrats."

"We were in the Atlanta spin room afterwards, and the delegation of Biden surrogates did not even make an attempt to defend Biden’s debate performance, instead switching the subject to his record — which Biden had just so spectacularly failed to defend for 90 minutes," Politico writes.

The excuses coming in from the White House include the following, according to Politico, are that Biden had a cold and would have done better in front of an audience.

But one group appears not to be convinced.

Politico reports, "Some Biden aides found the performance so concerning that, we’re told, they spent last night updating their LinkedIns just in case."
