Arsenal star will now be dropped for National Team after 'disappearing' in Euro 2024 group stage

Arsenal players are struggling to make an impact on Euro 2024, with several stars criticised for their performances with their National Teams.

Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka have found themselves in the centre of a storm with the England team after a disappointing set of group-stage performances from Gareth Southgate’s side.

Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard also disappointed in recent games for Germany and Belgium, and both their starting places may come under threat.

In addition, Jorginho had a mixed few games for Italy as they limped into the knockouts, and the Arsenal veteran now looks set to be dropped to the bench as Luciano Spalletti tries to get a tune out of his team.

Jorginho to be dropped by Italy for Euro 2024 knockout clash

Sky Sport Italy have now reported that, with Italy set to face Switzerland in the round of 16, Spalletti is set to make several changes to his team, and Jorginho will be axed from his starting XI.

Jorginho was accused of “disappearing” as Italy drew 1-1 with Croatia in their final group game, with the midfielder substituted in the 81st minute before Lazio star Mattia Zaccagni scored a stunning injury-time equaliser.

Reported Arsenal target Riccardo Calafiori will miss the match through suspension, whilst Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, who has also been linked with a move to the Emirates, may come into the starting XI after being dropped.

Juventus midfielder Nicolas Fagioli, who came on for Jorginho against Croatia, is expected to take his place in the starting XI alongside Bryan Cristante and Nicolo Barella, with Italy changing formation to a back four.

Jorginho is a key player for Italy, and was outstanding as his side won Euro 2020, earning a place in the Team of the Tournament, but it has been a frustrating campaign so far.

His lack of physicality in midfield has rarely been a problem with physical players around him, and he thrived alongside Declan Rice for Arsenal, but Italy may be wary of the threat Switzerland pose in this regard.

Former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka will line up in midfield for the Swiss team, and will hope to continue an impressive Euro campaign which followed his historic season with Bayer Leverkusen.
