Update on Newark Town Ladies Football Club and their recent achievements

A football club hosted its annual ladies’ tournament which brought 18 female teams together.

Around 180 women celebrated the female game at the YMCA Newark and Sherwood premises.

A high level of football was played with several Step Six teams attending, with Gainsborough Trinity being the winner of the tournament.

One of the Newark Town Ladies teams finished second in the tournament, losing out by one goal to a top tier six team.

The event received great feedback from the referees and visiting teams.

At the end of May, for a second year in a row, Newark Town Ladies 1st reached the Division 1 League Cup Final.

Newark went 1-0 in a competitive match against the University of Nottingham just before halftime, however, the results turned around in the second half with Nottingham winning 2-1.

After being promoted to Division 1 at the start of this season, the Newark Town Ladies 1st team finished the league in a respectable 2nd place narrowly missing out on back-to-back promotions.

On the other hand, the Newaek under 14s girls competed in their final and won the cup with a 2-1 victory. That victory added to their Nottinghamshire Girls and Ladies u14s League title.

The football club Ladies First Team Board director, Rachel Phillips said: “Our newly established ladies development team had a fantastic first season together going from strength to strength.

“With a solid squad of young and experienced players, the team are excited to competitively compete in division 3 in the coming season.”

The ladies’ football club are holding an open training day for any females aged 16 or above taking place at the YMCA activity village, Newark on June 30.

The sessions will run from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm.
