Quinn Ewers jokes about Texas poaching Jim Schlossnagle: ‘Took the whole staff’

TexasTexas A&M has been reignited with a fire this year. The Longhorns were already going be joining the Aggies in the SEC next week. Now, as of this week, UT landed another blow on A&M in hiring Jim Schlossnagle away to be their next head baseball coach.

Texas QB Quinn Ewers could do nothing but laugh about that fact when asked about it at the Manning Passing Academy on Friday. He’s certain that their rival is mad after his school took all of their coaches from them.

“They definitely are (pissed off),” smiled Ewers per Shea Dixon. “Took the whole staff.”

Schlossnagle is likely the least popular man in all of College Station at the moment. After finishing leading Texas A&M to the final of the College World Series on Monday, he had already accepted Texas’ job offer by Tuesday and was wearing burnt orange by Wednesday. That was only further frustrating for the Aggies considering, after the title loss to Tennessee, he infamously said that he was the head coach there to “never take another job again”.

If that wasn’t enough, Schlossnagle also took a trio of assistants with him in Nolan Cain, Max Weiner, and Michael Earley.

As for the football, both fanbases, as well as the entire sport, have circled their matchup on November 30th. It’ll be the first meeting between the pair since November of 2011 before Texas A&M left the Big 12 for the SEC.

Now, with the two programs finally set to meet again, Ewers is just one of many who can’t wait for that kickoff at Kyle Field.

“Yeah, I’m excited for that one,” Ewers said.

There’s not an ounce of love lost between Texas and Texas A&M, especially as of this year. That’s why the Longhorn quarterback is also loving the intra-rivalry move to steal the Aggies’ coach from them.

Colt McCoy on Texas vs. Texas A&M renewal: ‘It’s great for everybody’

Texas and Oklahoma being in the SEC this fall will mean the rekindling of a few former rivalry games that will have everyonesalivating.

“Texas vs. Texas A&M is not only a great game for college footbal. It’s great or the state of Texas,” former Texas QB Colt McCoy said on ‘McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning’. “I mean, listen, UT and A&M are two awesome schools. They’re massive. There’s 50,000-60,000 undergrads. I mean the magnifications of what that game does just in the state of Texas is unbelievable. So to have that game back is great for everybody and it’ll be great for the SEC.”

There are two other games on tap that have McCoy excited too.

“On top of that, I’ll tell you why I’m so pumped for Texas,” McCoy continued. “It’s because we get three rivalries back. Think about Texas-Texas A&M – we just talked about it. Texas and Oklahoma is one of the best games ever – playing in the Cotton Bowl, halfway between Austin and Norman. Everybody knows that game, we talk about that game.”

“But then the old Southwest Conference rivalry with Arkansas. I only played Arkansas once while I was in college and it was kind of just another game on the schedule, to be honest, for us as players. But, when we got to that week, it was a huge deal for our fans, our coaches. Like, you could feel the old-school rivalry, the emotions of that game. The guys who called in, the beat writers, like it was big.”

“The thing I’m most excited about is we get those three games in one season,” McCoy said. “It’s unbelievable.”
