Barack Obama on Friday weighed in on what some have dubbed a disastrous debate performance by his former vice president and current president, Joe Biden.

A raspy Biden Thursday evening failed to live up to expectations for Democrats hoping he would hold Donald Trump to the fire in the first presidential debate of the season. The weak performance from a forgetful Biden caused many -- including the Raw Story Editorial Board -- to call on Biden to drop out of the race.

On CNN, the panelists wondered what Obama thought, since he famously lost his first debate to Mitt Romney.

"Bad debate nights happen," Obama said the day after Biden flubbed the debate. "Trust me, I know."

He continued, saying, "But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself."

"Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit," the former president said on Friday. "Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November."

He then directed his followers to donate at Biden's website.
