Man sentenced to life in Denmark for murder of 17-year-old girl

In Denmark, a man who allegedly raped and killed a 17-year-old girl more than seven years ago has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

The 33-year-old was found guilty of murder as well as serious sexual offences against two other teenage girls in the case, the court in the town of Næstved to the south-west of Copenhagen announced on Friday. An appeal will be lodged against the judgement, it said.

The 17-year-old disappeared in July 2016 in Korsør, around 100 kilometres south-west of Copenhagen, and was found dead in a lake the following December.

According to the court, the man is said to have intercepted her on her way home and later killed her. He is also said to have planned to abduct and abuse her.

Investigators were put on the 33-year-old's trail by another case: in April 2023, the man allegedly abducted and abused a 13-year-old girl. The abduction of the girl led to a large-scale operation, during which the girl was found alive at the man's address after more than 24 hours. The man was then detained and later remanded in custody.

The man only admitted to some of the offences against the 13-year-old. He denied to the end that he had killed the 17-year-old teenager. He is also alleged to have attacked another 15-year-old girl.
