A West Norfolk mum has brought her imagination to life in a new children’s book that has recently been published.
Sarah Henderson, from Thornham, first thought about the name of one of the characters featured in the novel after her young son couldn’t pronounce the word ‘wellington’.
Many years later, Sarah has released her debut children’s travel novel, titled ‘The Adventures of Pellington and Welephant - Paris By Train’.
“The idea came up a long time ago when my son, who is now 19, mispronounced his words and said pellington instead of wellington boots. We both laughed at the same time and said it would be a great name for a character,” Sarah said.
“A long time passed and I gave up my business a couple of years ago, I thought maybe I could make a character and write and see what happens. I was very lucky that I got it published and it is now available.”
Sarah, who is now an exam invigilator, would eventually like The Adventures of Pellington and Welephant - Paris By Train to be part of a children’s travel book series.
Both characters, a pelican and an elephant, are wearing wellington boots throughout as it is where the idea for the book originated from.
The book is aimed at children aged between four and six.
Sarah added: “The idea was to have a little bit of educational input while not making it a textbook so it has some light facts that might be nice for children to know.
“I’m so, so pleased with the final vision.”
Now in her mid-50s, writing a book wasn’t something that Sarah had pictured herself doing.
“To have something at the age of 57 that I haven’t been involved with previously was lovely,” she said.
“Learning that in itself is great. Writing the words and seeing them come to life with the pictures - that was so exciting.”
The Adventures of Pellington and Welephant - Paris By Train is available to buy from online retailers, including Amazon, and from the Thornham Deli.
