'Leeds have looked': Daniel Farke is keen on signing 'reliable' free agent after his release - journalist

Leeds United are among a host of clubs interested in signing a free agent who was once worth £30 million.

The free agent market looks as though it is as strong as it has ever been this summer and Leeds are clearly looking to take advantage.

Daniel Farke’s side have already been linked with soon-to-be out of contract Fulham duo Marek Rodak and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, as well as Coventry City’s Callum O’Hare.

All three of those would significantly strengthen the squad without having to pay a transfer fee, though of course they will face competition from elsewhere, including Southampton for the latter two.

Leeds do not have an endless pit of cash to spend this summer and so identifying these sort of market opportunities could be vital to building a squad ready to go again for promotion.

Journalist says Leeds are interested in signing Ryan Sessegnon

Defence looks set to be an area of priority for Leeds this summer following the return of Connor Roberts and Joe Rodon to their parent clubs.

Liam Cooper is also still yet to put pen-to-paper on the offer of a new deal, while Charlie Cresswell has interest from across Europe, and would represent pure profit if Leeds were to sell him, having come through the academy.

At this stage, left-back looks like the position across the back four that is most well-stocked, but that could change depending on Junior Firpo’s situation.

Firpo has 12 months remaining on his deal at Elland Road and it appears as though he will not be offered a new one, meaning this summer is Leeds’ final opportunity to earn a fee for him.

As such, it would be wise for Leeds to scour the market in advance for potential replacements, and speaking exclusively to LeedsUnited.News, journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed interest is there for Ryan Sessegnon, who is set to be released by Tottenham.

He said: “Leeds were one of the teams to show an interest. Left-back has always been an issue for Leeds recently. Sessegnon on a free can offer a lot down that flank and he is one Leeds have looked at. Whether he can be persuaded to drop into the Championship will be the main issue really.”

Sessegnon would be a top signing at this level

Providing he can stay fit, which is a big if after the season of hamstring injuries he has just had, Sessegnon would be a top signing at this level.

In actual fact, his fitness issues could actually hand Leeds an advantage, as it may put Premier League sides off bringing him in.

If Firpo was to stay, having those two as options down that flank would be unbelievable. It would also hand Farke the opportunity to rotate them without weakening the team.

Sessegnon can also play as a left-winger and hit double figures for Fulham back in the 2017/18 season when he was just a teenager.

Antonio Conte hailed him as a ‘reliable‘ performer during his time in charge at Spurs and who knows where his career could’ve headed without the injuries. Hopefully he chooses Leeds to come and revive it.
