Report: Celtic scouts' heads are turned by £3.4m-rated talent

Celtic will hopefully be adding some quality to Brendan Rodgers’ squad for the coming season.

Fans want to see established professionals, ready to push for first-team places, arrive at Celtic Park over the coming weeks and months.

Last summer that strategy appeared to be waylaid by a quest to add young, unproven talents to the squad that, while holding potential, didn’t adequately strengthen the manager’s options after the departures of Jota, Aaron Mooy and Carl Starfelt.

Balance is important, however. While Celtic add more experienced players to the pool, keeping an eye on emerging youngsters is still worthwhile.

One such teenager is Pontus Dahbo, who is said to have impressed club scouts on the lookout for new players.

Celtic set to hold long-term interest in Pontus Dahbo

Fotboll Direkt in Sweden reports that Celtic have added the 18-year-old midfielder to a long-term watchlist after being impressed by his breakthrough at BK Hacken.

It seems unlikely the Bhoys will make a move for him this summer, but the outlet states that scouts will continue to watch his progress at the club.

Dahbo has already made 45 appearances for Hacken and gained some valuable experience in the UEFA Europa League group stages last term.

However, he has yet to establish himself as a regular starter and until he does, Celtic won’t know whether he can play with the consistency required to make the jump to the Bhoys.

Midfield will always be an area that sees a high turnover of players and if Dahbo continues to impress, Celtic will be taking a serious look. Especially since Hacken are said to value him at around £3.4m – a fee well within the Bhoys’ spending capabilities.
