Cesc Fabregas aiming to sign 'incredibly fast' player for Como, Wenger wanted him at Arsenal

Former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas is beginning a new chapter as manager of FC Como, and he is targeting some ambitious signings.

Fabregas has been part of the Como coaching setup for almost a year, but will now lead them as head coach, and he is already making an impact in the transfer market.

The former captain, who left for Barcelona in 2011, has already signed striker Andrea Belotti, who was once the subject of a transfer offer from Arsene Wenger, who wanted to bring him to Arsenal in 2017.

The Spaniard is in his first managerial job, and is aiming to follow the path of Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta into a successful coaching career. He may now have the help of a global superstar in his pursuit of glory.

Cesc Fabregas wants to sign Raphael Varane at FC Como

Fabregas now wants to sign former Real Madrid and Manchester United defender Raphael Varane at Como, and will now enter transfer talks with the Frenchman.

“Raphael Varane, landed in Como and already in the city to held face to face talks over move to the Italian club. Varane will speak to Como board and Cesc Fabregas. Serie A side Como, dreaming of Varane as revealed earlier this week — he’s available as free agent,” Fabrizio Romano posted on X.

Varane was a global superstar at Real Madrid, winning every trophy on offer as well as the 2018 World Cup, before joining Man United in 2022.

He spent two years at Old Trafford, but departed at the end of his contract after a injury-stricken campaign, and could now be set to join Fabregas at Como.

Fabregas played against Varane in El Clasico during his time at Barcelona, and Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos has previously described the defender as “incredibly fast.”

Varane came through as an outstanding teenage prospect at Ligue 1 side RC Lens, before he joined Real Madrid in 2011.

Wenger was a specialist in signing the best promising French talent, with the likes of Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry becoming legends at Arsenal.

Speaking in 2013, Wenger admitted that Varane was a player he would have loved to sign at Arsenal before he moved to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“A quick word on my fellow Frenchman Raphael Varane, the 19-year-old Real Madrid defender who could face United: I’m happy for him because he’s carving out a role at one of the world’s best clubs, which is remarkable,” Wenger stated in 2013.

“Yet at the same time, when you are in charge of a club like Arsenal, you have to wonder why this player is not playing for us. He was at Lens, and we might well have caught him there.

“It was a risk for Real Madrid to sign him at his age, but when you have such a talent, you can overcome everything.”

If things had panned out differently, Varane and Fabregas could have played together at Arsenal, but the pair may now have a chance to work together in Serie A with Como.
