Germany's Andrich not a fan of new rule on communication with refs

Germany midfielder Robert Andrich hopes that the Euro 2024 rule allowing only team captains to talk to the referee will not be implemented in the Bundesliga as well.

Andrich, who often shows his emotions on the pitch, said ahead of Germany's last 16 match against Denmark later on Saturday "I would probably rather not" welcome such a move.

The ruling body UEFA is implementing an option from the rule-making International Football Association Board (IFAB) at the Euros, under which only team captains can talk to the referee and others who do so face being booked.

UEFA referee chief Roberto Rosetti said on Thursday they are very satisfied with the rule, with players and coaches "absolutely happy" with it. He said that several big national associations have inquired about its implementation.

Andrich said the German team has followed the new rule well after being "a little irritated" when informed about it before the tournament, and that this will not change in the knock-outs.

"I think we are doing it very well. We will continue to do so without thinking much about it and simply play our game," he said.

Andrich has one booking at the Euros, for a foul, and would be suspended for a possible quarter-final if he sees another yellow against the Danes.
