Severe weather could affect Germany v Denmark Euro 2024 match

Germany's last 16 match against Denmark in Dortmund is set to take place as planned later Saturday as it stands now, amid a threat of severe thunderstorms.

The German weather service DWD has said that the severe weather could hit the area towards the end of the match and that "extra time is not recommended from a meteorological point of view."

Dortmund police said that the match is to go ahead at 9pm (1900 GMT) and that the fan zone would also be open, but a spokesman told dpa that "the decisions depend on further meteorological observations."

Saturday's other match between title holders Italy and Switzerland at 6pm in Berlin is not to be affected by adverse weather.

But fan zones and public viewing areas in other parts of the country may have to remain closed depending on storm warnings.

"It can be very dangerous being outside then," DWD meteorologist Tobias Reinartz said.
