Nati or Nazi? Berlin police aware that Swiss fans' song not fascist

German police have been given special training to spot the difference between Switzerland fans singing the word "Nati" rather than "Nazi" at Euro 2024.

A Berlin police spokesperson confirmed to dpa that officers have explicitly been reminded that "Nati" to Switzerland fans is a shortened version of the German term Nationalmannschaft, meaning national team.

Swiss German is radically different to the German spoken in the Euro host nation.

The chants from Swiss fans, who swarmed Berlin for their last-16 match with Italy on Saturday, have been misconstrued as fascist salutes by bystanders in the past.
