A grandad whose granddaughter was seriously injured in a car accident is hoping to raise funds to ensure her family can stay by her bedside as she faces a long road to recovery.
Steve Standing’s granddaughter Maicey was airlifted to London’s Kings College Hospital with serious injuries after she was hit by a BMW near Charles Dickens School in Broadstairs yesterday morning (June 28).
Appealing for help to support his family, Steve said he described how his teenage granddaughter faces a long stay at the specialist London hospital after suffering “multiple injuries” including fractures to her skull, spine and pelvis and a small bleed to the brain.
Steve has set up a GoFundMe in a bid to raise much-needed cash to ensure Maicey’s mum and dad can afford to take time off work to be by their daughter’s side.
he says it will allow other members of her family to travel between their homes in Kent and the London hospital to visit.
“Please if you could help,” he wrote.
“Other family members are having to stay in London and travel back to Kent on a daily basis so that we can all be by her side.
“Mum and dad are obviously staying with her which means they cannot work.”
He added: “We have no idea how long she will be at King's, but it will be for a while.”

Maicey was airlifted to hospital just before 8.30am yesterday after she was hit by a car whilst on her way to school.
An 83-year-old man, who comes from the town, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving was taken into custody.
He was released on bail until December 29.
