Fire erupts in Nizhny Novgorod warehouse - Explosions reported

In Nizhny Novgorod (Russia), this night of June 30, a powerful fire broke out at a waste disposal site. Local residents report several explosions at this facility located on Moscow Highway, according to the Telegram channel of the EMERCOM of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region, and Russian media.

It is noted that the area of the fire in the warehouse amounted to approximately one thousand square meters.

A tall column of smoke has risen above the burning object, visible for many kilometers around.

Local public sources reported that tanks containing paint and varnish materials were on fire. Additionally, Shot writes that there are likely gas cylinders inside the burning premises.

A resident of Nizhny Novgorod told journalists from the local publication In the City N about sounds resembling explosions, counting 7 powerful ones and around 40 weaker ones.

It is also reported online that the fire spread rapidly, and firefighters arrived at the scene not immediately after the incident.

Meanwhile, local emergency services state that upon the arrival of the firefighting and rescue unit at the burning waste disposal site on Moscow Highway near the Kanavinsky district center, open burning of containers was observed.

"The firefighting and rescue units are responding to a fire ranked as number 2. There are no fatalities or injuries," the statement reads.

Reminder, almost exactly a year ago, on June 29, 2023, Nizhny Novgorod also experienced a major fire. It occurred at the Balsam paint and varnish materials factory. Similar to now, reports at that time also mentioned hearing explosion-like sounds before the fire.
