Argentinian media deliver verdict on Giovani Lo Celso's display after playing key role in Copa America goal

Argentina defeated Peru 2-0 last night at Copa America 2024 and Giovani Lo Celso was in action.

The Copa America is well underway and Argentina have made a fine start to their campaign, winning all three of their opening group stage games.

Lo Celso made the starting 11 and the national media have issued their honest verdict on his performance after playing a key role in Lautaro Martinez’s opening goal.

Giovani Lo Celso handed 6/10 rating

Argentina’s national media outlet TyC Sports issued their honest verdict on Lo Celso’s performance against Peru last night.

Translated to English, Gaston Recondo wrote: “He had a lot of contact with the ball. He made more passes backwards or to the side than forwards, perhaps because he received the ball several times with his back to the opponent’s goal.

“When he made the pass vertical, he scored the 1-0 goal.”

The Tottenham midfielder played a poked ball between the lines to Angel Di Maria, who flicked it on for Martinez to chip home expertly.

Giovani Lo Celso could leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer

Lo Celso is one of the players who could be moved on from Tottenham Hotspur this summer transfer window.

He was offered to Aston Villa as part of a swap deal for Jacob Ramsey, so evidently, he isn’t in Ange Postecoglou’s plans.

It seems Unai Emery is keen on reuniting with his former player, so that could be a deal that goes through if the two clubs can agree a fee.

The 54-cap international is out of contract next year, so this window is the final chance for Spurs to cash in on him before potentially losing him on a free.

A telling few weeks lie ahead.
