The promising academy leader that could get his first big Celtic chance in pre-season

The Celtic fans will be keenly watching for any updates of new signings for the first team as the new season kick-off nears.

With Brendan Rodgers already losing Joe Hart to retirement and Sead Haksabanovic to Malmo, this coupled with Adam Idah and Paulo Bernardo returning to their loan clubs means that the club is already four players down than what they had when the season ended.

Whilst there is no need for panic, there is a bit of work needing to be done by the recruitment department to strengthen the team for the season ahead.

And whilst the Celtic manager is looking for first-team-ready players, Rodgers should also not ignore what is currently on his doorstep.

We recently discussed five Celtic B team youngsters who should be drafted into the Hoops first-team squad for next season.

Rocco Vata, Daniel Kelly, Buson Lawal, Mitchel Frame and Matthew Anderson are all highly rated at the club and could have a good future at Celtic ahead of them.

But there is another youngster who has already tasted success as captain at youth level who could also be drafted into the Celtic first-team squad.

Kyle Ure

Young Kyle Ure joined Celtic in the summer of 2022 after the club spent the close season tying up no less than ten academy youngsters to new deals.

The previous season, Ure captained Celtic to the2023 Scottish Youth Cup win over Rangers after an incredible 6-5 extra-time win over their Glasgow rivals.

Since then, the 18-year-old has featured a total of 38 times for the Celtic B team where he helped the young Hoops reach sixth place in the Lowland League.

He also featured six times for Celtic in the UEFA U19 Youth League last season where he was involved in the win and draw against Lazio.

Capped seven times for Scotland U17’s, Ure featured in all three of Scotland’s fixtures in the U17 Euro 2023 tournament last summer.

Ure also impressed Player Pathway Manager, Darren O’Dea, towards the end of the 2023 season for stepping up to the Celtic B team in the midst of an injury crisis.

With Celtic having pre-season friendlies organised against Queens Park and Scott Brown’s Ayr United, now could be the perfect time for the young midfielder to be given his chance to step up again with a first-team opportunity this summer.

Celtic’s international contingent won’t be available for selection so Rodgers is likely to draft in fringe players and youngsters – it may well be a big moment for Ure.
