‘Interest is genuine’: Fabrizio Romano says former Everton player is now ‘open to a move’ to Liverpool

Fabrizio Romano has been a busy man this past month, with the transfer window well and truly kicking into action and with Everton startling at its forefront.

Despite what Kevin Thelwell had suggested earlier in the year, it has actually been a summer of vast transformation for the Toffees already, with their business far from done.

With Jack Harrison having returned and Tim Iroegbunam welcomed on a permanent deal, the next transfer is expected to see Iliman Ndiaye join Everton, having completed his medical earlier this week.

However, this latest update from the journalist actually concerns a former player of theirs, with Anthony Gordon potentially set to become the latest player since Conor Coady moved to Merseyside to play for both Everton and Liverpool.

Fabrizio Romano delivers Anthony Gordon update

Gordon, ever since leaving Everton, has become something of a pariah around Goodison Park.

After all, the way in which he went about forcing his way out of the club was always bound to leave a bad taste, even if the reasons for his exit were justified.

However, as quickly as he has become a hero on Tyneside, there are murmurs that suggest he could now leave there as speedily and acrimoniously as he did Goodison Park.

And, to a rival of his former employers no less.

Romano told his YouTube channel: ‘Liverpool really considered that possibility. They had the discussion with Newcastle about Anthony Gordon. At the moment, there is still no agreement on the value of the player, on how much Newcastle would require to sell the player, but for sure, the interest is genuine.

‘And what I am hearing is that the player would be open to a move to Liverpool. So, it really depends on the clubs.’

Anthony Gordon could haunt Everton with Liverpool move

It seems like the 21-year-old, who was given his opportunity to shine on the big stage by the Toffees, is now on a personal mission to annoy every Evertonian possible.

After all, having essentially become the catalyst that has sparked the strangest of rivalries between Everton and Newcastle United, he further stoked the flames with his arrogance upon returning to Goodison Park.

His desperation to down his former employers is almost admirably petty, which made it all the more satisfying when Sean Dyche’s side crushed the travelling Magpies back in November.

But were he to swap Tyneside for Merseyside again, joining Liverpool, his success rate against Everton would likely see a sharp upturn, if recent history is anything to go by.

It would be incredibly tough to see such a maligned figure star for their biggest rivals, and coming fresh off the back of a season where he scored 12 and assisted 11, earning a spot in the England setup, he promises to be a thorn in Everton’s side for the next decade and beyond.
