Johan Bakayoko delivers 'honest' verdict when asked if he's joining Arsenal this summer

Belgium winger Johan Bakayoko has shared his opinion on ongoing rumours linking the PSV attacker to Arsenal this summer.

The 21-year-old forward is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe after coming off an incredible title-winning campaign with PSV, with Bakayoko scoring 14 goals and bagging 14 assists in all competitions with the Dutch giants.

Arsenal have in recent days been strongly linked with a move for Bakayoko, who as a right-sided winger could be the dream backup for Bukayo Saka as well as a sizeable upgrade on the likes of Reiss Nelson as cover for the position.

Arsenal-linked Bakayoko yet to give summer move much thought

Speaking to the press, Bakayoko admitted that he has not thought about a summer transfer just yet, with the youngster’s full attention away from PSV currently on Belgium and going as far as possible at the Euros.

Bakayoko said when asked about Arsenal’s reported interest: “I have to be honest, at the moment I am busy with the national team. I am not thinking about a transfer, I’m only thinking about doing my best here and how am I going to play when I get that chance.”

Indeed, with so many teams linked with Bakayoko beyond Arsenal, there’s a chance that the attacker could depart PSV this summer, yet the forward also admitted that he has not thought about this prospect either in recent weeks.

When asked if he has thought about leaving PSV this summer: Bakayoko replied: “No, I know that has never been said, I don’t know if I’m going to leave PSV. You have to think about those moments at the right time, but that isn’t now.”

Bakayoko has to be considered by Arsenal after the Euros

Attacking depth is one of the big issues Arsenal have to address this summer, and in Bakayoko, the Gunners could have the ideal target in mind to tackle this problem in the transfer window.

At 21, Bakayoko is already one of the most dynamic forwards in Europe having played a key role in PSV’s record-breaking Eredivisie title win, with the winger now on the verge of breaking into Belgium’s starting XI.

And for Arsenal, Bakayoko has to be considered as serious option to solve the attacking depth, with the youngster an exciting wide-forward who could grow greatly under Mikel Arteta and playing alongside the likes of Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.
