Barcelona have now submitted £19m bid to sign Tottenham target - journalist

Barcelona have now made an opening bid to sign a player who Tottenham were said to be leading the race for.

The Spanish giants are no longer a juggernaut of football in a financial aspect, presumably watching on with envy as Real Madrid splash to sign the likes of Endrick, Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham.

Now – however – Barcelona have made a creative bid to sign one of England’s top talents with the money they do have at their disposal, which could cause Tottenham to potentially miss out if it’s accepted…

Barcelona bid for Tottenham target Jaden Philogene

A story from TEAMtalk recently claimed that Tottenham led the race to sign Hull City No.23 Jaden Philogene.

It is said that Spurs were looking at Club Brugge No.32 Antonio Nusa, although attentions turned towards the England U21 international instead.

Now – according to Florian Plettenburg of Sky Germany – Barcelona have made a loan bid for Philogene which also includes an obligation to buy him next summer for around €23m (£19m).

The Spanish giants have also offered the 22-year-old a contract running until July 2026, after analysing him in “detail” last season.

Philogene scored 12 goals and also provided six assists in 32 Championship appearances throughout the 2023/24 campaign.

Spurs must get involved for that price

If Hull City accept this £19m offer, Tottenham have to match it.

That is an affordable fee for the north Londoners, and while there are reports of Ange Postecoglou being willing to spend £68m of his budget on Crystal Palace No.10 Ebere Eze, Philogene could represent a much cheaper alternative, one who is showing glimpses of being able to emulate the England international’s rise from a bright Championship talent turned Premier League superstar.

Both are street footballers – if you will – and Philogene could easily become a £60m player in his own right soon. A stunning rabona goal against Rotherham last season could even see him end up winning the Puskas award soon, with that strike alone probably catching Barcelona’s attention.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as the Londoner is expected to leave Hull City this summer.
