Kenny Miller piles the pressure on Rangers' new signings as Celtic reality sinks in

The new season isn’t anywhere near kicking off yet and for about the third time this summer, Kenny Miller seems panicked about Celtic.

We discussed this morning how the former Rangers striker spoke bizarrely about how it is a bonus for the first Glasgow Derby to be at Celtic Park this season.

It’s quite obvious that Miller is trying to make the best out of a bad situation as Rangers come to terms with not being able to kick off the new season at Ibrox.

But no sooner had he tried to shed a ray of light onto the situation than Miller immediately piled the pressure back onto his old club with this statement about their new signings.

Miller – Rangers didn’t ‘lay a glove’ on Celtic last season

Despite all the posturing and media narrative about Philippe Clement last season, Celtic still came up trumps to claim a league and Scottish Cup double.

And as Clement has already welcomed five new signings to Ibrox, Miller delivered a message that will undoubtedly put further pressure on his old club for the new season ahead.

Miller said [Daily Record], “These new players quickly have to get used to that pressure. And I’m not sure playing the first few games away from your home ground will help with that.

“There will be a demand put on them from day one. To go and challenge a Celtic team they couldn’t lay a glove on last season.

“It can be a heavy jersey and not every player can handle it. Playing a £60 million Champions League game in a stadium they’ve only set foot in once before – just adds to that.”

Wearing the jersey of either of the Glasgow clubs can be a heavy burden but the difference between the Celtic and Rangers players is that Brendan Rodgers’ team stood up and delivered when the title pressure was on.

With the Celtic boss looking to strengthen the side this summer and add to his double-winning squad, all the pressure is on the Ibrox club to try and stop the Hoops going for four-in-a-row and continue to assert their dominance as Scotland’s most successful club.

Clement would have been hoping to get time to bed in his players for the new campaign but with Miller already warning them about failure and not handling the jersey, it seems his nerves continue to show as he embraces the reality of Celtic’s superiority over his old team.
