NIA bars Er Rashid from talking to media, grants consent to him to take oath as MP on July 5

Srinagar:

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has granted its consent to allow independent Member of Parliament (MP) Abdul Rashid Sheikh aka Er Rashid to take his oath of office on July 5th in Parliament. This decision comes with specific conditions, including a prohibition on interacting with the media.

The Patiala House Court is set to issue its order regarding this matter tomorrow, July 2nd. Engineer Rashid has sought interim bail or custody parole to facilitate his participation in the oath-taking ceremony.

Engineer Rashid won in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections from the Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency in Jammu and Kashmir, securing 454,950 votes. This marked the first general election in the Union Territory since the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.

Rashid’s rival, Omar Abdullah, former chief minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, was defeat as Engineer Rashid contested and won the election while being incarcerated.
