Aston Villa players react to Douglas Luiz transfer to Juventus

After taking a moment to announce himself to Juventus fans, Luiz took to Instagram to send a heartfelt goodbye to Villa Park.

The midfielder arrived in the Midlands in 2019 and has since evolved into the player he is today, sporting an attitude that sees him leave B6 as an adored figure.

On Instagram, the Brazilian shared a video of some of his moments in claret and blue with a caption that read:

“The time has come to say see you soon, Villa Park.

“I want to start by thanking everyone (club, players, fans and staff) this was a place where I felt at home, you fans made an impact on my career and will never be forgotten by me, I will miss you!

“I hope I made you very proud, you can be sure that I always tried to give my best version, as a player and as a human being.

“It was 5 years of many joys, celebrations, struggles, learning, games, fun and many other things. Now I will continue my life at another club, but my fans and passion for you will never fade, thank you for everything.”

As expected, Luiz’s now former teammates flooded the comments to share their appreciation for the 26-year-old, read some of the messages below.

  • Morgan Rogers – Was a pleasure bro, all the best
  • Ollie Watkins – Dougie all the best my friend! What a player
  • Lucas Digne – Best of luck brother
  • Leon Bailey – All the best bro
  • Tyrone Mings – Good luck my bro
  • Robin Olsen – good luck brother
  • John McGinn – Good luck my friend. Top player but an even better person
  • Jacob Ramsey – Good luck bro

Luiz will always be a popular figure at Villa Park

Many associated with Villa will be sad to see Luiz depart after five glorious years in claret and blue.

The Brazilian has truly weathered the storm of Villa’s Premier League fortune in that time, ending on a high note as Unai Emery’s side prepare for the Champions League next season.

While the sale was necessary due to the club’s PSR concerns, it is a great shame that ties between the player and Villa had to end in such a way, despite the sale easing Villa’s financial woes.

There will be hope that Villa can meet Luiz in the future, perhaps as early as next season’s Champions League.
