Rasmus Hojlund issues two-word response on Man United target close to agreeing terms, would strengthen spine of the team

Manchester United’s transfer window is in somewhat of a holding mode while most of their own players as well as potential targets are on international duty in Copa America and the Euros.

Some, however, will start returning soon, with one of them being Rasmus Hojlund after Denmark was eliminated from the tournament.

The Dane didn’t have a great time at the tournament as he finished scoreless and his team was brushed aside by Germany in round-of-16, bowing out after not winning even a single game.

However, as is the case with United, the focus quickly turns to the club now and the Dane has opened up about many things in an interview.

Hojlund breaks silence on Ten Hag and United transfer target

Hojlund spoke to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany after Denmark’s elimination and touched upon various topics.

He revealed he was very happy with the decision of the club to keep the manager, saying Ten Hag is a “very good coach” and he loved working with him last season.

The striker said it is his ambition to score even more goals next season and hopefully add to the FA Cup he won in his debut campaign.

Finally, he was asked about his thoughts on reports that United have made contact with Bayern Munich for the signing of Matthijs de Ligt.

Understandably, he declined to comment on speculation but gave his endorsement of the player’s qualities in a succinct two-word response, calling him a “good defender”.

United have been linked with De Ligt incessantly but the prospect of his signing becoming a reality has never been more realistic than now.

It has been reported that United are already close to agreeing personal terms with the player and with Bayern open to letting him leave, he could become the first signing of Ineos era.

De Ligt, Mainoo, and Hojlund is a promising spine

The picture of Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Hojlund sitting on the advertising board pitchside has the potential to go down as legendary when stories of United are told in 50 years’ time.

All three have the potential to be world-class and are in a similar age bracket.

As unbelievable as it sounds, De Ligt is not that far ahead, especially for a defender, a position in which the peak is generally much later.

At 24, the Dutchman has already seen a lot after a rapid rise in professional football, captaining Ajax at 18 and moving clubs twice.

Ineos have made attempts to freshen up the core of the team with promising young players, a shift from the strategy of the earlier regime of panic-buying players mostly at the end of their careers.

De Ligt would slide in well with the growing collection of exciting youngsters at United who are already contributing at the first-team level.

In fact, he would add a unique mix of youth plus leadership as despite being young, he is far more accomplished in senior football than the likes of Mainoo, Hojlund, and Garnacho.

There are asterisks over this deal, namely his injury record, wages, and lack of time spent at a single club.

However, if the finances involved being reported are correct, then this deal makes too much sense for United to not pursue.

Hojlund already rates him!
