Football: Japan attacker Kamada signs with England's Crystal Palace

Japan midfielder Daichi Kamada has signed a two-year deal with Crystal Palace, subject to international clearance, the English Premier League club announced Monday.

The 27-year-old joins the south London side on a free transfer after departing Lazio in the Italian top flight.

The move reunites Kamada with his former manager Oliver Glasner, with whom he won the 2022 Europa League title at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Kamada has scored seven goals in 33 games for the Samurai Blue and appeared in all four of their matches at the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.

The attacking midfielder transferred from the J-League's Sagan Tosu to Frankfurt in the summer of 2017 and spent time out on loan to Sint-Truiden in the Belgian top flight before becoming a mainstay of the German Bundesliga club.

He notched 40 goals and 33 assists in 179 games for Frankfurt and gained attention in England for repeatedly scoring against Premier League sides in European competition.

Kamada moved to Lazio in the summer of 2023 but could not reach terms on a new contract with the Rome club.

"I'm excited to be joining Crystal Palace, and to be working with Oliver -- who is a coach I know well -- again," Kamada said in a statement. "I am looking forward to testing myself in the Premier League, and hopefully the club and I can achieve all of our objectives together."
