Former Inter Miami player sold by Phil Neville now officially set to join major European club

A former Inter Miami star who left to join a rival MLS side is now set to officially join one of the biggest clubs in Europe this summer.

Phil Neville’s tenure with the Herons is looked back on with mixed opinions by Inter Miami fans, with the former England Women’s coach the first manager to take the Florida franchise to the MLS play-offs, though with a bland and inoffensive style of soccer.

An appointment that somewhat highlighted the nepotism that could occur at Inter Miami with David Beckham a co-owner, Inter Miami learnt a lot of lessons under Neville, with the resulting consequences leading to the current success we see now with Tata Martino.

And one player who left on Neville’s watch is now set for a major move to Europe.

Julian Carranza set for Feyenoord move after flourishing at Philadelphia Union

The Philadelphia Union have confirmed that Argentine striker Julian Carranza will be joining Dutch and European giants Feyenoord this summer, with the 24-year-old departing MLS two years after leaving Inter Miami for their Eastern Conference rivals.

Carranza was one of Inter Miami’s first signings back in 2019 as the former Argentine youth international struggled for form in Florida, leading to Neville loaning out the forward to the Union in 2022 with the move soon being made official for just $500,000.

Since moving to Philadelphia, Carranza has been one of the most reliable forwards in MLS, with the former Inter Miami attacker scoring 43 goals in 95 appearances for the Union, six of which have come this year.

And with the 24-year-old now heading to Europe, Inter Miami can only sit there and wonder how it all went so wrong for Carranza in Florida, who is now set to join one of the biggest clubs in Europe who next season will be in the UEFA Champions League.

Inter Miami will be kicking themselves over selling Carranza

The Herons have had an interesting tracking record when it comes to signing since their inception in 2018, yet the sale of Carranza is certainly one that the Herons will be kicking themselves for.

The Argentina striker has established himself as a regular goalscorer in MLS and a talent who could go far in Europe if he hits the ground running at his new club Feyenoord this summer.

And for Inter Miami, Carranza’s move to the Netherlands will only highlight how cautious they need to be in upcoming windows when it comes to selling players, with the 24-year-old good enough to challenge for a starting spot with the Herons.
