Former Tottenham wing-back training with Crystal Palace following summer exit

Former Tottenham player Ryan Sessegnon is reportedly training with Crystal Palace with view to signing on as free agent.

Tottenham Hotspur are set for a busy summer as Ange Postecoglou looks to build on a promising first season in charge of the Lilywhites.

Reports from The Telegraph state, the Spurs boss is looking to freshen up his squad ahead of a busy campaign, with the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Emerson Royal likely to leave the club.

There of course already have been a number of departures so far this summer, with Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon, Japhet Tanganga and Ivan Perisic all having left the club following the expiration of their deals.

Dier and Perisic have already been picked up by Bayern Munich and Hajduk Split, meanwhile Sessegnon has reportedly attracted the interest of several Premier League and Bundesliga clubs – according to Football.London.

Fresh off the back of an impressive couple of seasons at Fulham, expectations were high when Sessegnon joined the Lilywhites back in 2019 for a reported £25 million fee.

Originally signed by Mauricio Pochettino, injury meant the Englishman would have to wait until November to make his debut, something that would become a common theme during Sessegnon’s Spurs career.

Rarely used by the likes of Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo, the defender’s brightest spell at Tottenham would come under Antonio Conte in 2021/22 season. Deployed as a left wing-back, the former Fulham man played an important role in Tottenham’s Champions League qualification.

By next season though, he was back on the treatment table, never able to get his Spurs career back on track.

In his five seasons at the club, Sessegnon would only manage to make 57 appearances, only making a measly one appearance during the 2023/24 season.

Following the expiration of his deal, Sessegnon has reportedly been training with Premier League outfit Crystal Palace – according to David Ornstein.

Talks have reportedly begun between the two parties, with Oliver Glasner keen on securing the 24-year-olds signature.

Mainly deployed as a left wing-back during his Spurs career, Sessegnon would likely slot in on the left-hand side of Glasner’s three at the back system – providing cover for Tyrick Mitchell.

The Eagles will be keen on wrapping the deal up quick, in an effort to fend off any other potential suitors.
