'The standout': Gabriel Agbonlahor says Arsenal player has been the best in his position at Euro 2024

Arsenal have a host of players who have already booked their place in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals.

Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka played 120 minutes on Sunday evening as England scraped past Slovakia with a 2-1 victory.

Aaron Ramsdale has watched on from the bench throughout the tournament while David Raya has suffered the same fate with Spain, barring one appearance in the group stages.

The Spaniards are set to face hosts Germany in the quarter-finals, with Kai Havertz currently playing a key role for Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

Elsewhere, William Saliba and Leandro Trossard will be hoping to join their Arsenal teammates in the next round, with France and Belgium, respectively.

And one Arsenal star has made Gabriel Agbonlahor’s Team of the Tournament so far.

Agbonlahor names Kai Havertz has Euro 2024’s standout striker

Havertz has continued his excellent form into the summer and netted twice in four games at the Euros.

The 25-year-old has also registered one assist, with Germany currently viewed as one of the favourites to win the tournament.

Agbonlahor has been selecting his best XI of Euro 2024 so far and despite claiming Havertz should have more goals to his name, the former Aston Villa skipper has been impressed with the Arsenal star.

“This was hard because no one has really stood out in the striker position. I was going to pick a false nine but I didn’t want to get hammered so I’ve gone with Havertz,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.

“Scored two penalties, should have scored maybe five or six more goals this tournament. I mean, last night [against Denmark on Saturday], the header… anywhere else but straight at the goalkeeper and he scores.

“The one where he tries to dink the keeper, he’s got to finish that a bit more clinical. Late on in the game as well there was a chance where he ran through where he could have shot and scored but he hit the keeper and missed.

“But I have been impressed with him. He can frustrate you at times, I feel, but when he’s on it, he can be sharp and hold the ball up.

“Even for the chance he had yesterday, his touch when he got the ball played into him. That was an unbelievable touch to get past [Joachim] Andersen and run through. So, I think Havertz has been the standout striker.”

Spain clash crucial for Havertz and Germany

Spain have arguably been the standout team in the tournament so far and easily dealt with Georgia with a comfortable 4-1 victory in the last 16.

Germany also picked up a 2-0 win over Denmark and at this moment in time, the winner of Friday’s quarter-final looks likely to go on and win the Euros.

Havertz has impressed while leading the line for Germany and he should fancy his chances of getting opportunities against Spain.

The Spaniards play with an incredibly high line and while they have proven devastating going forward, they give away opportunities on the counter.
