Luis Figo says 'amazing' £43m Manchester City star is definitely his country's most skillful player

Luis Figo was extremely complimentary towards one Manchester City player.

Figo is widely considered as one of the greatest players of all time — renowned for his time at Barcelona as well as the Portuguese national team.

The 51-year-old even played alongside Pep Guardiola at Barcelona — where the pair won two La Liga titles as teammates.

The former Real Madrid winger would be hoping that Manchester City’s cohort of Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo can help steer Portugal to winning Euro 2024.

Luis Figo hails Manchester City technician Bernardo Silva

So far, Roberto Martinez’s side have met expectations, qualifying in first place from their group but are yet to fully convince with their showings at the tournament.

Portugal will be hoping to return to winning ways after their surprise 2-0 defeat to Georgia in their final game of the group-stage.

Slovenia will pose a difficult test for Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. on Monday night in the Round of 16.

Asked to build his perfect Portuguese player on FIVE’s official channel, Luis Figo was asked which current stalwart in their squad would he pick when it came to their skill.

Figo replied: “Bernardo Silva.”

A testament to how skillful Bernardo Silva is

Bernardo would justifiably be over the moon upon coming across the claim from one of his country’s biggest footballing icons in Luis Figo.

During his playing days, Figo was renowned for his immaculate technique, sublime dribbling and powerful striking of the ball.

The fact that a man who was as technically gifted as Luis Figo thinks Bernardo — branded as an “amazing player” by Gary Neville — is Portugal’s most skillful player is indicative of how special his left foot is.

Especially in a Portugal team that features the likes of Joao Cancelo, Rafael Leao, Vitinha and Joao Neves — who are some of the most skillful players in world football.

However, the £43 million man is cut from a different cloth in comparison to his teammates when it comes to how incredible his first touch, close control and dribbling in tight areas is.

Amongst a multitude of reasons, the six-time Premier League winner being as integral to Pep Guardiola is due to his masterful technique.
