Impressive win for Wisbech Town over leaders Ramsey

Wisbech Town inflicted a first defeat of the season on hosts Ramsey on Saturday, winning by an impressive 161 runs.

James Williams’ men are up to fifth in the Cambs and Hunts Premier League Division One after the win over a side who had won all of their ten games this season.

After being asked to bat, Wisbech scored 249-6 from 58 overs, before bowling out the home side for a meagre 88 in 26.1 overs.

Top run scorer for Wisbech was wicket keeper Josh Bowers with 76 from 116 balls, including ten fours and a six. Thomas Hoyle hit ten fours in his 55, opener Danny Haynes scored 27, Jonny Garner an undefeated 16, Williams 15 not out, Gary Freear 15 and Jamie Seabrook 13.

Kieran Haynes was the pick of the bowlers with 4-44 from 13 overs, Josh Porter took a brilliant 3-0 from 2.1 overs and George Gowler 3-26 from seven.

In Division Two, March Town lost by 119 runs at home to third-placed Upwood and are now just a point clear of the relegation places. After being put into bat the visitors scored 263-9 from 50 overs, Callum Young taking 3-38 from 10 overs, Kian Pooley 3-51 from nine, and a wicket each for Samuel Clarke, Adam Conyard and Josh Fisher.

In reply, March were 144 all out from 34 overs, despite openers Fisher (69) and Brandon Phillips (43) putting on 90 for the first wicket. Only Tommy Howgego joined them in double figures, scoring 13.

In the CCA Senior League Division One, Wisbech 2nd were beaten by seven wickets at home to Ramsey 2nd and remain in second place.

After being put into bat, Wisbech scored 175-8 from 45 overs, Pieter Jacobs scoring a blistering 74 from 77 balls, with eight fours and four sixes. Wicket keeper Matthew Hill hit 30 before being stumped by his Ramsey counterpart, Sam Albutt scored 27, captain Dom Stannard 16 and Jason Esser 14.

In reply, Ramsey powered to 178-3 from 30.5 overs, Jacobs taking 1-15 from 7.5 overs and Chris Clark 1-25 from seven.

Chatteris lost by two wickets at home to Cambridge Old Monks in CCA Division Two. After electing to bat the home team scored 255-8 from 45 overs, opener Steve Bishop scoring 86 from 75 balls, with 17 fours and a six, while Anthony Bamford hit 84 from 111 balls, with ten fours and three sixes. Wicket keeper Connor Morton scored 43 from 46 balls and Liam Boxall 14.

March Town 2nd conceded their game at Telugu Association of Cambridge and remain bottom of CCA Division Three.

In CCA Junior League 4 North top of the table Wimblington beat derby rivals Chatteris 2nd by four wickets. After being put into bat, second-from-bottom Chatteris were bowled out for 114 runs in 36 overs. The home side went on to score 115-7 from 35.4 overs.

March Town 3rd lost by 214 runs at Ramsey 3rd in CCA Senior League 5 North. The home side elected to bat and scored a massive 319-6 from 40 overs, opener Andrew Jarvis scoring 182 of them. Oliver Ashby took 2-32 from five overs, Geoffrey Kirby 2-55 from seven, and there was a wicket each for Mark Deas and James Willis.

In the same division, Wisbech 4th won a thrilling encounter at home to leaders Milton 3rd by just three runs and with only four balls remaining. After being put into bat, Wisbech scored 172-8 from 40 overs, captain Martin Woollard scoring 96 from 107 balls, with nine fours and five sixes. Opener Lee Hoenderkamp scored 31 and wicket keeper James Harper 13.

In reply, were 169 all out from 39.2 overs, Jay Modhvadia taking 3-21 from 7.2 overs, Henry Plume 3-26 from seven, Oscar Smithee 2-39 from eight and a wicket each for Amber Crossley-King and Karthic Sivakumar.
