Ukraine is preparing further joint steps with European partners, and the coming months are expected to show progress in bringing the country closer to the European Union, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's evening address.

"We are preparing further joint steps with partners in Europe, and the coming months are expected to show progress in Ukraine's approximation to the European Union," said Zelenskyy.

He also mentioned the procedures for screening and preparing the conditions for a future accession agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

"There will also be new bilateral security agreements with our partners," added the President.

Ukraine's EU accession

In December of last year, Ukraine received the "green light" to start accession negotiations with the EU.

On June 25th, official accession negotiations with the EU officially began. This occurred at the First Intergovernmental Conference in Luxembourg.

The next step will be the so-called bilateral screening, which will allow Ukraine to align its legislation with European standards.

EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Mathernova, suggested that Ukraine's accession process to the EU could take less time than in other countries. A realistic target year appears to be 2030.
