For most people, physical activity, including running, is associated with health and achieving a great body shape. However, engaging in such an active sport without proper preparation can be detrimental to your health, according to Ukrainian doctor and coach Uliana Verner.

How running can cause harm

According to experts, if you engage in running professionally, maintain perfect technique, and have no problems with your back and joints, it won't harm your health.

However, it's noted that 90% of people run incorrectly, which can worsen their health.

If you enjoy running, it's crucial to learn the correct technique. But if you don't enjoy running, don't force yourself; find a sport that you like.

Incorrect shoe choice

Choosing the wrong shoes can lead to damage to knee joints and ankles.

Running shoes should have:

  • a soft, cushioned heel
  • a flexible foam sole
  • a heel higher than the toe

For strength training, shoes should have:

  • a flat sole
  • a sole that doesn't bend for better weight distribution
  • a soft heel that supports the ankle

The appearance of athletic heart syndrome

In some cases, an athletic heart can lead to the following problems:

  • irregular heart rhythm
  • increased risk of arrhythmia
  • other cardiac complications

Running does not burn many calories

According to the coach, running does not burn more calories than strength training.

If your goal is to burn as many calories as possible and lose weight faster, then you don't have to exhaust yourself with running.

You can lose weight without training at all, but your body will be toned with it.
