Report: Celtic keen on youth defender training with Arsenal

As Celtic continue to invest in their academy and facilities available to young talents, the club will be hoping for a more viable pathway from the youth ranks to the first team.

The redevelopment of the Barrowfield training centre is a significant moment in Celtic’s strategy to bolster that vision.

Brendan Rodgers has talked up his wish to better prepare youngsters for the senior set-up, including installing a new Professional Pathway Manager.

Celtic will not only be relying on developing talent from a very young age but be looking to sign some of the best players in their mid-teens from across the country, despite the continuing presence of English sides looking in on Scotland.

One player they are said to be showing interest in is St Johnstone prospect Callan Hamill, who is impressing scouts at the elite level.

Callan Hamill gets a training opportunity at Arsenal

The Athletic report that Hamill, still just 15, is currently training within the Arsenal set-up with a view to a potential transfer next summer.

He cannot sign elsewhere until he’s 16 but the Gunners, as well as Celtic, are said to be keen on his potential ahead of a 2025 move.

Hamill is a right-back but can apparently also play as a central option, with his full positional development path likely not quite set yet. A Scotland youth cap, it seems he has a bright future in the game.

At this stage, you would imagine Arsenal are in pole position for his signature but with a full year to go until firm decisions are made, Celtic may well want to take a training look at him as well.

Ensuring Celtic becomes a centre to improve the best Scottish talent, regardless of which club they started at, is crucial and hopefully the Bhoys can start to show their facilities can foster potential in line with elite clubs around Europe.
